Abstract: The anthracycline antibiotics daunorubicin and adriamycin are important clinically useful drugs in the treatment of a number of human cancers. The structurally simplified synthetic analogues 4-demethoxydaunorubicin and 4-demethoxyadriamycin show much clinical promise.
