Unsaturated ureides of the type R-CH= CHCONH-CONH2 might be expected to react with halogens to form addition products of the type RCHX-CHX-CONH-CONH2. However while attempting to prepare dibromosuccinuric acid, I-IOOC-CHBr-CHBr-CONH-CONH-CONH2 by treating maleuric acid, I1, with bromine water, instead of the expected dibromo addition product, a white crystalline solid was obtained.
