Abstract Cryptophycins are a family of highly cytotoxic, cyclic depsipeptides. They display antitumour activity that is largely maintained for multi-drug-resistant tumour cells. Cryptophycins are composed of four building blocks (units A–D) that correspond to the respective amino and hydroxy acids.
