Abstract Horeau's method for the determination of absolute configuration has been used successfully for the determination of configuration of some cyclic and acyclic vicinal diols. The examples include the four isomeric pinane-2, 3-diols and some diols which were prepared from (-)-(S)-ethyl lactate.
