摘要

Lead tetraacetate oxidations of carboxylic acids yield products through alkyl radical or alkyl cation intermediates, depending on reaction conditions. We have investigated these reactions in the well-known phenylethyl system by use of erythro-and threo-2-methyl-3- phenylbutyric acids. Both substitution and elimination products are obtained.
