Abstract The potassium of the 2, 4-di (t-butyl) pentadienyl anion may be prepared by metallation of the corresponding 1, 3-diene. This anion reacts readily with titanium, chromium, and zinc dichloride complexes to yield the appropriate M [2.4-(tC 4 H 9) 2 C 5 H 5] 2 species, which display significant differences relative to their 2, 4-dimethylpentadienyl analogs.
