from 6-methylbenzothiazole and benzyl bromide by the procedure used for lb (i). The light pink crude product was recrystallized from ethanol as colorless prisms (48%): mp 210-214" C; NMR (MezSO-d6) 6 6.23 (s, 2 H), 7.2-8.5 (m, 8 H), and 10.88 (s, 1 H). 3, 3'-(~, u'-o-Xylyl) bis (benzothiazolium bromide)(6).
