Abstract: Asymmetric allylation of (hetero) aromatic aldehydes by a zinc (II)- allylbutyrolactone species catalyzed by a chiral BINOL-type phosphoric acid gave β- substituted α-methylenebutyrolactones in 68 to> 99% ee and 52–91% isolated yield.
