A unique procedure to effect a ring-expanding bromoetherification process is described, wherein tetrahydrofurans and tetrahydropyrans are smoothly transformed into 8-and 9- membered bromoethers in a regio-and stereocontrolled manner through the use of BDSB ( bromodiethylsulfonium bromopentachloroantimonate).
