However, deprotonation of 11 with LDA followed by reaction with Me1 gave the somewhat unstable 2, 5-bis-(methy1thio) pyrrole 12 in high yield. With the aim of incorporating a substituent at the 3-and 4-positions of the pyrrole ring by this series of reactions, N- methoxysuccinimides 13 and 14 were prepared from the corresponding meso anhydrides.
