Reaction of chloro (chloromethy1) dimethylsilane (1) or-germane (2) with group 14 element nucleophiles, R3M'Li (3, M'= Si, Ge, and Sn), was examined to prepare R3M'-MMe2-CH2-C1 compounds (4, M= Si; 5, M= Ge). However, disubstituted compounds R3M'-MMe2-CH2- M'R3 (6 or 7) were mainly produced because the carbon-chlorine bonds in 4 or 5 are activated by the@-effect of the R3M'groups.
