(13) A similar conclusion was reached by Sadler and Stewart'based on a thermodynamic analysis involving subtraction of the resonance energy of the benzyl (13.5) and allyl (10.8) radicals and exocyclic double bond strain (13.3 kcal/rnol) from the activation energy for CC bond cleavage in cyclopropane (84.2 kcalhnol) giving a minimum A@ for rearrangement of 26.6 kcai/mol.
