Abstract: A synthetic route to dl-sirenin and dl-isosirenin was achieved using the following sequence. 5-Bromovaleric acid on treatment with triphenylphosphine gave the phosphonium salt; Wittig reaction using this salt and 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one gave the Cla- diene acid, 6, 10-dimethyl-5, 9-undecadienoic acid, as a mixture of cis and trans isomers.
