The structure and phases of two analogous salts containing the 1-ethyl-1, 4-diazabicyclo [2.2. 2] octanium cation were examined. Their comparison provides insights into the relative electrostatic attraction between the ions and the relative packing in the crystal lattices. For 1- ethyl-1, 4-diazabicyclo [2.2. 2] octanium bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide, a metastable phase was observed to coexist with the two solid phases during the solid− solid transition.
