Abstract: The reactions of I, 4-diiodobicyclo [2.2. 2] octane and I, 5-diiodobicyclo [3.2. Iloctane with trrt-butyllithium provide convenient synthetic routes to the [2.2. 2]-and [3.2. Ilpropellanes. The corresponding reaction of I, 4-diiodonorbornane gave I-tert-butyl-4- iodonorbornane as a major product. Whereas I, 4-dibromonorbornane did not react with trrt- butyllithium.
