Abstract 5-Cyano-2H-thiopyran and a number of derivatives have been obtained in fair to good yields by heating compounds with the system [BOND] C [TRIPLE BOND] C [BOND] C [BOND] S [BOND] C [DOUBLE BOND] C [BOND] C [TRIPLE BOND] N in silicon oil; 4-cyano- 2-methylthiophenes are formed by heating these systems in dimethylsulfoxide in the presence of diisopropylamine.
