In the infrared, the carbonyl group of the ketone IVi absorbs at a higher frequency (1665 cm- i) than that of the corresponding chalcone IVh (1645 era-i), and in the UV spectrum, absorption bands are more displaced toward the long-wave region for the chalcone IVh, which has a conjugated chain, than for the ketone IVi.
