Stereochemistry of Sequence for Dithiocarbonyl Group Synthesis (Scheme IV). A solution of (R)-2-octanol (4.9 g, 37.7 mmol) in toluene (20 mL) was refluxed with sodium (0.69 g, 30 mmol) until all of the sodium had dissolved. After cooling to 25" C, CS2 (2.3 g, 30 mmol) was added with stirring. After 10 min, a solution of Me1 (4.3 g, 30 mmol) in ether (25 mL) was added and reacted for a further hour.
