Hydrogenation of either l, l-difluoro-2, 2-dichloro-3-phenylcyclobutane(VII) or l, l-difluoro-2, 2- dichloro-2-phenylcyclobutene (VI) over a palladium-on-charcoal catalyst gave l, l-difluoro-3- phenylcyclobutane (1.) Bromination of 1-by S-bromosuccinimide produced 1, l-difluoro-3- brorno-3-phenylcyclobutane(IX) which on dehydrobroinination by potassium hydroxide in ethanol afforded 1, l-difluoro-3-phenyl-2-cyclobutene(11.).
