Ethoxyethynylcarbinols, which can be prepared from carbonyl compounds and metallic derivatives of ethoxyacetylene, react with amines in three dif- ferent ways. Strongly basic amines like diethylamine mainly cause reaction A, dis- sociation of the carbinol into the carbonyl compound from which the carbind was derived, and ethoxyacetylene (which reacts further with the amine used).
