(Z)-l,4-But-2-endiol (1) derivatives are often used as C4-building blocks' and we have also recently reported the preparation of either (Z)-allylic or homoallylic alcohols from 2-methyl-1,3-dioxep- 4-ene (2) or l,l-di(a-tetrahydro- pyranyloxyl-but-2-ene (31, respectively, by Ni(I1) cata- lyzed alkylation using Grignard reagents.?~~ The virtually total complete regiocontrol, observed ...
