Abstract A new method for the 1, 1'-binaphthalene-2, 2'-diol and 1, 1'-binaphthyl-2, 2'- dialkylether by CuCl2 and FeCl3 under solid-state condition and ionic liquid is described. The stereo selectively coupling of 2-naphthol by CuCl2 and FeCl3 in presence of optically active amino acid is also studied.
