Pigment Red 170 (1a) is currently one of the most important organic pigments for paints and coatings with an estimated market share of roughly 50million euros annually. The g phase is used for automotive coatings, but the coatings start to fade after five to ten years. For a better understanding of the pigment s properties we determined the crystal structures of the a and g phases from X-ray powder diagrams, even in the cases when indexing was not possible. ...
