Abstract: The 2-methoxya:! yl cation has been generated from 2-methoxyallyl bromide and silver trifluoroacetate in the presence of sodium carbonate and shown to react with benzene, toluene, p-xylene, and mesitylene. On acidic work-up 1-aryl-2-propanones and bicyclo [3.2. 2] nona-6, 8-dien-3-ones were isolated, whereas nonaqueous work-up gave further products including arylated enol ethers, a simple acyclic hemiketai, namely 2-hydroxy-2- ...
