Nine a, W-bb (4-ethynylphenoxy) alkanes were synthesized from the corresponding a, o- dibromoalkanes by (1) reactlon wlth p-bromophenoUKOH,(2) pailadium-catalyzed coupling with 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-05 and (3) caustk hydrolysis of the hydroxy Intermediates. The structures of the ethynyl compounds were confirmed by IR,'H NMR, and DSC.
