Lb 1 ag intramolecular cyclization of 7 (Scheme I). Photolytic Arbuzov reactiong of o- iodobenzylamine in diethyl methylphosphonite (Scheme 11) gave only tars. However, acylation of o-iodobenzylamine with formic acid, acetic anhydride, or trifluoroacetic anhydride gave amides 8a-c which, when photolyzed under similar conditions, gave 7040% yields of 9a-c.
