Abstract Hexa-1, 5-diyne-3-one is a molecule of some potential synthetic utility. We had occasion to prepare this new substance (II) in another context. Although the ketone II can be prepared by the well known chromium trioxide (Jones) oxidation of the alcohol I, the conventional method of carrying out that oxidation was not successful because of the lability of the product II.
