We synthesized two series of diphenyl-diacetylene (DPDA)-based materials with alkoxy and alkyl tails of length m (DPDA–OCm and DPDA–Cm, respectively), and measured their nematic-phase birefringence (Δn) as a function of wavelength and temperature.
