Abstract Title thiadiazoles were obtained by reaction of sulfur and methylpyridines in the presence of alkyloxybenzoylhydazines. Corresponding oxadiazoles together with symmetrical 2, 5-dialkyloxyphenyl-1, 3, 4-thiadiazoles were also isolated as by-products. The formation of different reaction products is rationalized.
