Recent publications2~ 3 have described a general synthesis of benzo [c] quinolizinium derivatives from appropriate trans-2'-chloro-2-stilbazoles. This synthesis involves photochemical isomerization of the trans stilbazoles in benzene solution to give crude cis trans mixtures.
