The functionalization of the naphthalene ring system by a direct amination-alkylation reaction of chiral nonracemic naphthyloxazolines is described. Chiral 1-naphthyl-and 2- naphthyloxazoline were treated with a variety of lithium amides followed by several different electrophilic quenches.
