Abstract 5-(N, N-Dialkylamino)-2-furfuryldiene-N, N-dialkylimmonium salts I (the so called vinamidinium salts) are characteristic of their reactivity towards electrophilic reagents. A series of new furan derivatives with substituents in β-position of the furan ring were prepared via this reagent. The presented reactions involve halogenation, nitration, formylation and acylation with the Vilsmeier-type reagents.
