There is a continuing interest in refining techniques for the solid-phase chemical synthesis of RNA. The well-es-tablished internucleotide coupling protocols that have been developed for DNA synthesis, including methyl phosphoramidites, 2-cyanoethyl phosphoramidites, and H- phosphonates,'have been proven to be much less satisfactory for RNA.
