A series of hydroxynlkyliminobkacetan~ ides and their esters was prepared and examined for local anesthetic action. The compounds derived from Na, a-trimethylphenethylamine showed a high degree of activity, some examples being 4000 times as active as procaine. Structure-activity relationships were studied in the course of this investigation.
