The chemistry of dihydropurines, especially 7, 8-dihydropurines, occupies a minor niche in the annals of heterocyclic chemistry.'Although 7, 8-dihydro-7, 9-disubstituted-purines are well-known, l" only a few examples of the preparation of 7, 8-dihydro-7-or-9- monosubstitutedpurines have been reported.
