The reaction of &acetylenic chlorides, R'R'C (Cl)-C&H, with alcohols, RSOH, in the presence of strong base produced acetylenic ethers, RIR* C (OR+ C d H. Yields were satisfactory only with methyl and ethyl alcohols (R3= CH3 or C~ HL). The ethers were converted by alkylation to the homologs R1ReC (OR3)-C&-R4, by the Mannich reaction to RIRzC-(OR3)-C= C- CH2NR4R6 and by hydration to keto ethers R1R* C (OR3)-COCH3.
