Abstract Borax, a naturally occurring material, very efficiently catalyzed the conjugate addition of thiols, dithiols and amines to α, β-unsaturated ketones, nitriles, amides, aldehydes and esters in an aqueous medium to afford the corresponding Michael adducts in good yields at room temperature.
