Abstract: A series of a-halo sulfones, ArCHXSOzPh (where X= CI, Br, I, or Ar is meta and para substituted with a variety of groups: NOs, CN, C1, C02H, C02Et, COCH3, and H), was treated with triphenylphosphine (TPP) in aqueous DMF to give the reduced sulfones, ArCHsSO2Ph, in quantitative yield.
