Series of acyclic and cyclic dienyl anions were prepared from both conjugated and non- conjugated dienes by direct metalation with alkali metals (Li, Na, K, Rb, and Cs) in tetrahydrofuran in the presence of triethylamine or N, N, N′, N′- tetramethylethylenediamine.
