4. To a solution of 10 mL of ethanethiol at 0 OC under nitrogen was added sequentially aluminum chloride (0.654 g, 49.2 mmol) and 4 (0.988 g, 3.94 mmol). An immediate precipitate developed and the mixture was diluted with an additional 15 mL of ethanethiol.
