The 1, 2-hydrogen-shift rearrangement of a singlet alkylcarbene to produce an olefin is a general reaction of current theoretical and experimental interest.] Although the rearrangement can be simply regarded as an insertion into an a CH bond, the structure and energy of the transition state are still in question.
