Abstract Selective esterification of the polyphenol resveratrol was performed under thermodynamic conditions using NaH and acid anhydrides to directly access 4′-esters. Standard conditions with acetyl chloride and pyridine showed poor selectivity, favoring esterification at the 3-position.
