Results We reasoned that a powerful alkylating agent, such as alkyl trifluoromethanesulfonate (triflate), might be capable of alkylating a hydroperoxide in the absence of strong bases which are required to generate alkylperoxy anions for reactions with less powerful alkylating agents, eg alkyl mesylates or alkyl halides.
