Results The bridgehead ketones 1-6 were synthesized via the reaction of the known carboxylic acids with phenyllithium or diphenylcadmium. Ketones 1-6 have n, R* absorption and low-temperature emission spectra (ET= 72 f 1 kcal/mol) similar to that of pivalophenone (7, Table I) and have intersystem crossing quantum yields of 1.0 f 0.05, as determined by comparison with benzophen~ ne.~ Room temperature phosphorescence was observed ...
