Various aliphatic hydrocarbons and the side chains of aromatic hydrocarbons were chlorinated in subcritical carbon tetrachloride. Chlorination of aromatic compounds including 1, 4-disubstituted benzenes was investigated. Ketones and sulfones were stable under the employed conditions.
