Oximation of 5-Chloro-2-pentanone (Eq 2, Path a).-Following the method of Wohlgemuth4 a solution of 1.21 g (0.010 mol) of 5-chloro-2-pentanone, 0.77 g (0.011 mol) of hydroxylamine hydrochloride, 0.76 g (0.0055 mol) of potassium carbonate, 25 ml of 95% ethanol, and 25 ml of water was refluxed for 45 min.
