Summary: Reacting 2, 5-dibromothiophene with LDA and quenching with trimethylsilyl chloride yielded 3, 5-di-bromo-2-(trimethylsilyl) thiophene (8) and not the title compound 2, 5- dibromo-3-(trimethylsilyl) thiophene (7a)-an interesting starting material for polythiophene synthesis-as claimed in the literat~ re.~+~*~
