(Method A).-To a solution of 1.0 g. of S-carbobenzoxy-DL-phenylalanine cyanomethyl ester in 7 ml. of ethyl acetate 0.17 ml. of 2-hydroxyethylamine was added, and the mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature.
