The reaction of Grignard compounds with ketenylidcnetriphenylphos-phorane and subsequent hydrolysis yields Z-oxoalkylidenetriphenyl-Ph0SphOTBIl€ S ‚The latter undergo Wittig reaClion, whereby tli')—x./3-unsaturated ketones are obtained. An application of this strategy to the synthesis of carbonyl homolegues o!" Lepidoptera pheromones and the queen substance is shown.
