We have determined that one of the Scheme A reactants (2 or 3) should be in a salt form which is soluble in the reaction medium in order for these reactions to proceed at satisfactory rates. This observation was made when morpholine (2 mol) was add-ed to methyl N'- phenylcarbamimidothioate hydroiodide (2, R3= C<, H5;(1 mol). causing an imniedi/ate separation of mor-pholine hydroiodide.
